Science Understanding, Space Earth.
Year 1, Observable changes occur in the sky and landscape. (ACSSU019).
Year 1, Literacy, Interacting with others.
Engage in conversations and discussions, using active listening behaviours, showing interest, and contributing ideas, information and questions. (ACELY1656).
This mind map would be used in the Engage phase of a unit of work to incite enthusiasm and curiosity and find out what we think we know.
In my imaginary classroom I am a year one teacher in the remote community of Yirrkala in North East Arnhem land. I have nine students, seven Indigenous students who speak English as a second or third language and two students who are fifth generation Australians of European decent that speak and understand English well.
Our mind map is going to display the changes in our local environment that occur throughout our year. We will explore the seasons and weather patterns, flora and fauna, and bush foo.
Our mind map will be made into a poster that we can stick on the wall and add or change as we observe the changes in our community and landscape throughout the year. It will be used as one of the tools to allow us to observe and record these changes and how these changes can impact our community.
The Yolngu people observe six seasons in a calendar year, these will be displayed on our map and written in both Yolngu Matha and English, for this assignment I had difficulty finding the correct translations of some words, (if this was a real life situation I would have spent more time accessing all the correct words in several Yolngu dialects) with lots of colourful pictures of some of the changes we have observed or might already know about.
